A mom with her daughter and son in front of the Washington Monument

Hello, I’m Nikita. If you're curious about homeschool, I have nine children and currently homeschool. Almost all of my children have attended public school, and I have homeschooled five of them. When our school became too small and chose to become an independent learning center, I was faced with the choice of homeschooling or moving. I decided to try homeschooling. It was terrifying, to say the least--trying to figure out how to teach five children from preschool to high school.

Lucky for me there are so many choices on curriculum, and I picked a great one. It included everything for each child and all the information on how to teach it.

Now we’ve been homeschooling for several years. Since starting to homeschool, I have had three children graduate and one of them was able to do college courses while still in high school, earning college credits through the dual enrollment program. One is now a Marine in the intelligence field. If I could go back in time I would have homeschooled all nine of my children.

Homeschooling allows us to take things outside the classroom. We can set our own schedule. Also, the kids get a lot of individual attention they don’t receive in a large classroom full of kids. If you decide to homeschool don’t get overwhelmed; there are so many resources available so that you always have help when you need it.
